About the Author

Charles Boundy – ‘Bringing History to Life’ - After roles as a commercial lawyer and local environmentalist, I have finally had time to privilege my long-term love of history and writing, combined with long walks through our wonderful country.

Starting with a deep dive into the Vikings, I went back into the whole question of who lived in Britain from the last Ice Age onwards, why they came and how they changed the land. My first book, Ice to Athelstan – The Emergence of England, follows that process through 10,000 years in 12 chapters and 260 pages to the first crowned king of a recognisable England.

Published in July 2026, my second book, Conquest to Charter – The Resilience of England (940 to 1272), takes the story on through the turbulent years of two conquests, an anarchy and civil wars to the establishment of Magna Carta and an early parliament. The books are supplemented by talks to u3a and various historical and other groups.
